The club was founded in the summer of 2015 with the overall aim of promoting continued participation in kayaking and to provide further opportunities for its members to develop their personal kayak skills. It also aims to create a base in Lucan Demesne to complement the upgraded facilities of the Sluice with the long term goal of providing a clubhouse with changing/showering facilities and storage in the Lucan Demesne area
The club mainly focuses on general purpose or recreational kayaking and endeavours to run regular trips throughout the year for its members. It also hopes to to offer training courses in kayak skills and safety. It is envisaged as the club develops it will cater for other disciplines such as slalom, marathon and sprint racing and canoe polo.
