About Us

  • The club was founded in the summer of 2015 with the aim of creating a base for canoeists in the Lucan area at Lucan Demesne in order to complement the recent upgraded facilities of the Sluice and also to promote continued participation in kayaking and to provide further opportunities for personal kayak skills development
  • The club generally focuses on general purpose / recreational kayaking and endeavours to run regular trips throughout the year for members. It also aims to offer training courses in kayak skills and safety.  It is envisaged as the club develops to cater for other disciplines such as slalom, marathon and sprint racing and canoe polo.
  • The long term goal is to provide a club house with changing/showering facilities and storage for equipment in Lucan Demesne

The club is open to new members on the following basis

  • Prospective members should be at minimum Canoeing Ireland Level 2 Kayak Skills standard
  • As Lucan Kayak Club has a very limited store of equipment members are expected to own or have access to their own boat and equipment – however Club boats and gear may be rented out to club members on a temporary basis for club trips/sessions
  • All Club members are required to be registered with Canoeing Ireland. This is a requirement for insurance purposes and for those who wish to participate in any Canoeing Ireland events ,races or competitions such as the Liffey Descent and Paddlefest.  Lucan Kayak Club membership fee includes registration with Canoeing Ireland.  The current annual fee (2023) for Canoeing Ireland registration is €30 for seniors and students and €10 for juniors.
  • Complete and submit Club Application form and return by email to the Secretary at Lucankayakclub@gmail.com .

  • All new applications for membership will considered by Club Committee
